ITV has started the year with a fine piece of casting, as it’s announced that Kate Beckinsale will headline its upcoming drama, The Widow.
The programme is a co-production between ITV and Amazon Prime (with the latter streaming it everywhere else on the planet), and it’s come from the pen of Harry and Jack Williams (Liar and The Missing).
Beckinsale will take on the role of Georgia Wells, a character who gets a phone call in the middle of the night to tell her that her husband of ten years has died. His death caused by a plane crash in the Congolese jungle.
Three years on, Georgia will learn a piece of information that’ll have her investigating her husband’s disappearance.
Sam Donovan and Olly Blackburn will be directing, and production starts this month. Expect a transmission date of later this year. ITV will screen the show first, before Amazon streams it elsewhere in the world.
