Moffat won’t return to ‘Doctor Who’ after he leaves: ‘Once I’m done, I’m done’

Doctor Who writer Steven Moffat has revealed that it’s unlikely he’ll write for the show again once he departs as showrunner next year.

Moffat’s final season of Doctor Who has been filming in Cardiff since June and will begin airing on BBC One in April 2017.

Here’s everything we know so far about Season 10.

Broadchurch creator Chris Chibnall will take over as showrunner for 2018’s season.

Speaking to students at the Oxford Union, Moffat said: “I think as much as I hate to concede it … this is probably it for me – once I’m done, I’m done.”

The Sherlock writer explained: “I’ve written a hell of a lot of Doctor Who. I’ve written more Doctor Who than anything else, and I’ve written more Doctor Who than anyone else has ever written. It feels as though, in my limited time on this Earth, I really should start focusing on something else. It’s not that I’ve lost love for the show at all, but I think it’s time for Doctor Who to have something new, as well as me.”

The fourth block of Season 10 filming, comprised of episodes written by Jamie Mathieson and Rona Munro, has just completed filming. Episode 5 and Episode 9 were directed by Charles Palmer, who directed 2007’s ‘Human Nature’ and ‘The Family of Blood’.
