The new season of Doctor Who will consist of 12 episodes.
The latest issue of Doctor Who Magazine reveals that Episodes 11 and 12 “will bring this year’s series to a close”.
These two episodes are the next to be filmed, the magazine has announced, with Episode 9 (believed to be written by Mark Gatiss) being “the last instalment of the 2015 series to be recorded.”
Last year’s Season 8 also ran for 12 episodes and a Christmas special, although opener ‘Deep Breath’ was a feature-length episode. It has not yet been announced if Season 9’s opener, ‘The Magician’s Apprentice’, will also have an extended running time.
Each season from 2005 until 2011 (apart from 2009’s year of specials) consisted of 13 episodes and a Christmas special.
