The creator of Our Girl has hinted that the mission in Season 2 will be “fraught [and] perilous”.
Five new episodes of BBC One’s army drama are currently filming in South Africa, with Michelle Keegan replacing former star Lacey Turner in the lead role as medic Corporal Georgie Lane.
“Kenya is a complicated and volatile posting – one which will challenge Georgie professionally in unexpected ways, and which will change her personal life forever,” What’s On TV reports.
Former Coronation Street star Keegan said: “First time I put on the uniform it felt quite surreal, but then I immediately felt the sense of duty – as if I was in the military.”
Our Girl writer Tony Grounds commented: “Excited to be following Two Section on a mission to the Kenya/Somalia border. Our new medic Georgie Lane, with tours of Afghan and West Africa under her belt, now has to deal with the fraught, perilous and ever-changing situation in East Africa. It is amazing to have such a talent as Michelle Keegan bringing Georgie Lane to life.”
Flemish website deredactie.be has also revealed more Season 2 storyline details: “[Georgie] Lane … is sent to Africa on a humanitarian mission. It’s a mission that turns into a nightmare when Muslim extremists attack a refugee camp on the Somali border.”
Michelle Keegan and returning Season 1 star Ben Aldridge will be joined by Luke Pasqualino (Skins) as maverick Special Forces officer Elvis Harte, Royce Pierreson (Murdered By My Boyfriend) as Dr Jamie Cole, Rolan Bell (Doctors) as Sergeant King, Sean Sagar (Top Boy) as Monk and Anthony Oseyemi (Behind Enemy Lines) as the Kenyan forces’ Captain Osman.
Season 2 is expected to air on BBC One later this year.
