The brilliant Taskmaster roared back onto Dave for its sixth series on Wednesday night, and promptly delivered the best ratings figure the show has ever managed.

Hosted by Greg Davies and Alex Horne, the latter of whom created the show, Taskmaster is – bluntly – one of the very best secrets on British television. But it’s a secret more and more people are discovering. The new run landed an overnight viewing figure of 778,000 people, and given that Dave’s ratings also get heavily topped up from catch-up services, that should comfortably crack a million.

The US remake of the show started in the last week too, although it’s not as good as the British original.
