Tennant and Tate confirmed for new ‘Doctor Who’ audio adventures

Posted Filed under

Big Finish has officially announced that David Tennant will return as the Tenth Doctor alongside Catherine Tate as companion Donna for three new Doctor Who audio dramas next year.

Big Finish executive producer Jason Haigh-Ellery commented: “I still remember the sense of joy I had when I heard that David had been asked to play the Doctor. We were all so pleased for him — as we knew how much Doctor Who meant to him. And now David comes full circle, back doing Doctor Who with Big Finish — except that this time he’s playing the Doctor! It’s the same but different — it’s wonderful to have him back!”

Executive producer Nicholas Briggs added: “I’ve enjoyed working with all the Doctors on TV, but David is on the only one I’d known before he became the Doctor. I’d worked with him on our Dalek Empire series for Big Finish and had such fun. So along with the excitement of directing new Tenth Doctor adventures, I’m so happy to be working with an old chum again.”

Doctor Who: The Tenth Doctor Adventures will be released in May 2016.

The three new stories are:

‘Technophobia’ by Matt Fitton

When the Doctor and Donna visit London’s Technology Museum for a glimpse into the future, things don’t go to plan. The most brilliant IT brain in the country can’t use her computer. More worrying, the exhibits are attacking the visitors, while outside, people seem to be losing control of the technology that runs their lives.

Is it all down to simple human stupidity, or is something more sinister going on? Beneath the streets, the Koggnossenti are waiting. For all of London to fall prey to technophobia…

Guest cast will include Niky Wardley as Bex, Rachael Stirling as Jill Meadows, Chook Sibtain as Brian, Rory Keenan as Kevin and Jot Stevens as Lukas.

‘Time Reaver’ by Jenny T Colgan

Calibris. The spaceport planet where anything goes. Where anyone who doesn’t want to be found can be lost, and where everything has its price. Where betentacled gangster Gully holds sway at the smugglers’ tavern, Vagabond’s Reach.

The alien Vacintians are trying to impose some order on the chaos. Soon the Doctor and Donna discover why. An illegal weapon is loose on the streets. A weapon that destroys lives… Slowly and agonisingly. The Time Reaver.

Guest cast will include Alex Lowe as Soren, Sabrina Bartley as Cora, Terry Molloy as Rone, John Banks as Gully and Dan Starkey as Dorn.

‘Death and the Queen’ by James Goss

Donna Noble has never been lucky in love. So when, one day, her Prince does come, she is thrilled to have the wedding of all weddings to look forward to. Though the Doctor isn’t holding his breath for an invitation. And her future mother-in-law is certainly not amused.

But on the big day itself, Donna finds her castle under siege from the darkest of forces, marching at the head of a skeleton army. When it looks like even the Doctor can’t save the day, what will Queen Donna do to save her people from Death itself?

Guest cast will include Blake Ritson as Rudolph, Alice Krige as Queen Mum, Beth Chalmers as Hortense and Alan Cox as Death.

Producer David Richardson teased: “This is one of those dream projects where I’ve spent months pinching myself. I’m covered in bruises. With two major international stars in place, and the legacy of this era of the TV show to live up to, we’ve worked our socks off to try and make some very special stories for this box set. Expect adventure, fun, scares… and some tears too.”

All three stories will also be available in a limited edition Doctor Who: The Tenth Doctor Adventures Volume 1 set. Limited to just 5,000 copies and available exclusively from bigfinish.com, the lavish book-sized box set includes exclusive artwork, photography, articles and a one-hour documentary featuring interviews with the stars and production team.
