Being Human creator Toby Whithouse has confirmed that there have not been talks “on any official level” about him becoming showrunner of Doctor Who.
Whithouse has written a two-part story for the show’s new season, following his previous episodes ‘School Reunion’, ‘The Vampire of Venice’, ‘The God Complex’ and ‘A Town Called Mercy’.
Asked about the recurring rumours that he is in line to become the “next Doctor Who showrunner”, Whithouse told TLE: “No-one at the BBC has ever had this conversation with me!”
The writer of BBC Two’s recent spy thriller The Game added: “No-one has asked me, no-one has approached me about if Steven [Moffat] leaves, when Steven leaves. These are conversations that happen purely among fans, not on any official level.”
Whithouse previously commented on the subject in 2013, saying that it’s “definitely something I’d be really tempted by”
Steven Moffat will return as showrunner for Season 10, although there have been reports that this will not be airing next year.
