If you’ve never listened to one of Big Finish’ audio episodes of Doctor Who, now’s your chance! BBC digital radio station Radio 4 Extra provides a healthy diet of sci-fi related shows and drama, which includes (somewhat irregular) dips into the world of Doctor Who.
At the moment, though, the Beeb’s iPlayer Radio service is carrying one of the fourth Doctor (Tom Baker) created by Big Finish for you to listen to for free – and we recommend you do. The hour-long story, written and directed by Nicholas Briggs – perhaps best know for being the latest in a line of performers behind the mic and ring modulator that provides the voice of the Daleks – is called Destination Nerva, and stars the voices of both Baker and Louise Jameson, reprising her role as Leela. The synopsis is as follows:
“After saying their goodbyes to Professor Litefoot and Henry Gordon Jago, the Doctor and Leela respond to an alien distress call beamed direct from Victorian England. It’s the beginning of a journey that will take them to the newly built Space Dock Nerva… where a long overdue homecoming is expected. A homecoming that could bring about the end of the human race.”
You can head over to the episode via this link.

And if you’re a fan of the fourth Doctor, we’d also recommend you check out its Jago & Lightfoot series, which features two classic characters first seen in The Talons of Weng-Chiang back in 1977.
Finally, thanks to Blogtor Who for the heads up!
