The DIY Doctor Who project returns for the show’s big birthday – which scene will you recreate?

Back in 2020, during those interminable lockdowns, the Doctor Who fan community rallied to keep people engaged and entertained. While the restrictions generated choirs and tweetalongs, which played a part in David Tennant’s return to the show, some were inspired to go one step further.

Homemade Who inspired the Doctor Who community around the world giving them with something creative and fun to do while everyone was stuck inside.

The heart-warming project received more than 250 entries from over 20 countries worldwide; fans recreated scenes from all 166 episodes of the show’s 2005-2020 era using whatever they could find in their house!

Highlights included cardboard Daleks (complete with sink plunger), tin foil Cybermen, and some very dramatic speeches delivered from people’s bedrooms (sorry neighbours!), with some truly astounding cosplay looks.

Here’s an epic 30-minute supercut featuring all the 2020 entries:

Now, Homemade Who is back for the show’s 60th anniversary year. This time, they’re looking for submissions which recreate iconic moments from all six decades of the show’s history.

Here’s the 2023 launch teaser:

Here’s how you can be part of Homemade Who:

Don’t worry if you don’t have everything you need to make the perfect costume – in the true spirit of Doctor Who, this is all about old-school creativity and imagination.

Everyone who takes part will be included in a compilation video this November, but please follow these simple rules:

1. Don’t include any actual footage or audio from the TV series.

2, Your clip should ideally be between 5-30 seconds long.

3. Film your clip in landscape orientation (16:9 widescreen) – not portrait or square – and in HD if possible.

4. Don’t add any music or text/titles to your clip.

5. Entrants under the age of 18 must ask permission from a parent or legal guardian before submitting an entry.

Email your clip to homemadewho@yahoo.com – please don’t compress the file size as it reduces image quality – don’t worry if it’s a big file!
