Jodie Whittaker revealed to Attitude magazine that she had failed to win a role in a previous Doctor Who series.
“I’ve seen the odd episode [of Doctor Who] because I’ve got a friend in it, and I’m aware of it obviously. I went to drama school about the time that Christopher Eccleston was announced in the reboot. It was a job I did audition for, and I didn’t get the part! Not the Doctor, obviously.”
Whittaker reportedly made a similar claim to an interviewer for the Times Magazine. It is said she revealed it was for and episode of Series 5 with Matt Smith.
She couldn’t recall the role for which she auditioned nor did she name the friend who won the role. Could it have been her Broadchurch costar Olivia Colman who appeared in The Eleventh Hour?
Her face lit up when asked if LGBT+ fans will enjoy the series. She recalled meeting Alex Kingston at San Diego Comic Con and thinks it would be “amazing” if the Doctor were reunited with River Song.
“Well, it would obviously be in the hands of Chris Chibnall but River Song would be the Doctor’s wife.”
