The Orphan Black spin off show will also star Krysten Ritter, with the pair co-leads in Echoes

We’ve been following the story of Echoes, the Orphan Black spin-off show for a while. In fact, the show was first mooted way back in 2019.

With the wheels turning in earnest this year, AMC announced the casting of former Marvel star Krysten Ritter as the show’s lead in June. Now, they’ve added a co-leading role from our side of the Atlantic: Keeley Hawes.

Hawes is a veritable household name in the UK, having grown from her breakout role in Spooks to lead shows such as The Durrells, Bodyguard and The Midwich Cuckoos. She also made headlines with Line of Duty and a standout turn in Russell T Davies’ impactful It’s a Sin.

The actor has also turned producer with her own production company Buddy Club Productions, generating shows like Finding Alice, Honour and the forthcoming Crossfire.

Here’s the synopsis Orphan Black: Echoes:

Set in the near future, the new Orphan Black takes a deep dive into the exploration of the scientific manipulation of human existence. It follows a group of women as they weave their way into each other’s lives and embark on a thrilling journey, unravelling the mystery of their identity and uncovering a wrenching story of love and betrayal.

Krysten Ritter, who also executive produces, has been announced as playing Lucy is “… a woman with an unimaginable origin story, trying to find her place in the world.

Now we can add Keeley Hawes’ character into the mix. While we don’t yet have a name, AMC tell us that “… Hawes will portray a perceptive but sensitive scientist who finds herself at odds with her own moral code when circumstances lead her to make an unthinkable choice.”

Two other cast members have also been announced, Amanda Fix (High School) and Avan Jogia (Zombieland: Double Tap).

The first season of Orphan Black: Echoes is currently in production in Toronto. It will comprise 10 episodes and is set to premiere in 2023.

We’re not sure where it will land in the UK, but we’ll keep you posted.
