The charity publication, focused on the show’s opening sequences, will raise money for UNICEF.
Of late, publisher Ten Acre Films have been concentrating on Doctor Who‘s formative years.
First came Pull To Open, chronicling Doctor Who’s road to the screen. Then, they announced a book looking at the life and work of David Whitaker, a key figure in early episodes as the show’s first Story Editor. Now, it’s the turn of the programme’s opening titles.
Adventures in Type and Space – A Celebration of Classic Doctor Who Title Sequences
Adventures in Type and Space explores the visuals made to accompany the theme in the classic era. Released in time to celebrate 50 years of the fan favourite ‘diamond’ logo, now returned for the show’s 60th Anniversary, the bookazine promises in-depth interviews with some of the show’s designers and animators.
They include Bernard Lodge (title designer 1963-1979), Peter Govey (special cameraman 1970-1979) and Gareth Edwards (titles animator 1987-1989). Plus, contributions from Sid Sutton (title designer 1980-1986) and the family of Oliver Elmes (title designer 1987-1989).
Publisher Ten Acre Films says:
Illustrated throughout with rare and unseen imagery, Adventures in Type and Space is a celebration of the artistry and ingenuity that went into creating Doctor Who’s extraordinary title sequences, told by the people who made them, and includes a foreword by Mark Gatiss.
The 124 page bookazine is created by Graham Kibble-White, Jack Kibble-White and Stuart Manning. All proceeds raised will benefit UNICEF, Bernard Lodge’s chosen charity.
