Murder is Easy – trailer & dates for the BBC’s new Agatha Christie

The latest adaptation stars Penelope Wilton and David Jonsson.

As BBC continue to reveal their festive line-up, we’ve our first proper taste of their latest Agatha Christie.

The trailer sets up the story as Fitzwilliam (David Jonsson) meets Miss Pinkerton (Penelope Wilton) on a London bound train.

On her way to Scotland Yard, she’s travelling to report a murder in her village of Wychwood under Ashe. However, when Miss Pinkerton herself dies, Fitzwilliam finds himself travelling to Wychwood to investigate…

The show has gathered a stellar cast which includes Morfydd Clark, Tom Riley, Douglas Henshall, Mathew Baynton, Mark Bonnar, Nimra Bucha, Phoebe Licorish and Tamzin Outhwaite.

Murder is Easy comes to BBC iPlayer from 6am on Wednesday 27th December, with the first episode airing that night at 9pm on BBC One. Episode two follows at the same time on the 28th.

Murder is Easy – first look at the BBC’s new Agatha Christie

Co-produced between Mammoth Screen and Agatha Christie Limited, Murder is Easy is the latest of the author’s works to be adapted for the small screen.

It follows adaptations in recent years of And Then There Were None, The Witness For The Prosecution, Ordeal By Innocence, The ABC Murders and The Pale Horse.

Murder is Easy

England, 1954. On a train to London, Fitzwilliam (David Jonsson) meets Miss Pinkerton (Penelope Wilton), who tells him that a killer is on the loose in the sleepy English village of Wychwood under Ashe.

The villagers believe the deaths are mere accidents, but Miss Pinkerton knows otherwise – and when she’s later found dead on her way to Scotland Yard, Fitzwilliam feels he must find the killer before they can strike again. Because for a certain kind of person, murder is easy…

The new take on the story comes from writer Sian Ejiwunmi-Le Berre and director Meenu Gaur (World on Fire)

David Jonsson (Industry) stars as Fitzwilliam, with Penelope Wilton as Miss Pinkerton.

Bridget (Morfydd Clark) & Lord Whitfield (Tom Riley)

Morfydd Clark (Lord of the Rings) is Bridget, alongside Tom Riley (The Nevers) as Lord Whitfield.

Douglas Henshall (Shetland) plays Major Horton,

While Mark Bonnar (World on Fire, Guilt) is the Reverend Humbleby and Mathew Baynton (Ghosts) plays Dr Thomas.

Filmed on location in Scotland, the show is coming to BBC One and the iPlayer in the UK. In the US, Canada and South Africa, it will appear on BritBox International.
