The Ghosts are leaving us, but they’ve left a special present under the Christmas tree.
Updated 29/11/23: Story details revealed for the Ghosts finale.
Although we’re still in denial about the end of Ghosts, the moment is approaching. In a rundown of this year’s festive television line-up, the BBC have revealed what to expect on our final visit to Button House:
Christmas is just around the corner and Mike’s mum, Betty is staying. Although she is just trying to be helpful, Mike and Alison soon lose patience with her interfering ways. There’s no easy way to ask her to go home so the couple (and the Ghosts) struggle on, with Button House feeling fuller than ever.
Now a Christmas convert, Robin is missing that all important ‘Christmassy’ feeling, so the gang share their secrets to getting into the festive spirit. But when even more decorations and merry music don’t do the trick, the Ghosts wonder if Robin will be able to capture that Christmas magic again?

We’ve known since March that the hit comedy Ghosts concludes with its fifth series.
That run of six episodes begins this Friday, October 6th at 8.30 pm on BBC One, with all episodes dropping on the iPlayer.
However, the team behind the show have embraced social media to reveal news of a further Christmas Special which concludes the show.
In a coordinated move, five out of six of the show’s writers posted the following message:
The final series of Ghosts starts on Friday… but there might be one last present under the Christmas tree this year #bbcGhosts

While Jim Howick, who plays Scout Leader Pat, simply quoted Matthew Baynton saying “Ho Ho Boo!”
Ghosts has enjoyed five 6-episode series, with Christmas Specials in 2021 and 2022. The 2022 special scored an impressive 5.9 million viewers, making it the biggest comedy of the year.
Ghosts Season 5 and that final Christmas Special are a Monumental Television production in association with Them There for the BBC. The producer is Pat Tookey-Dickson, the director is Simon Hynd. The show’s six creators serve as Executive Producers, alongside Monumental’s Alison Carpenter, Debra Hayward and Alison Owen.
