Bridgerton star Nicola Coughlan is set to join the cast of Doctor Who for the 2024 festive special.
The Galway-born actress starred in standout roles such as the hilarious Clare Devlin in award-winning drama comedy series Derry Girls, Penelope Featherington in the regency-era international sensation Bridgerton, and, not to forget, one of the Barbies in the Barbie movie, alongside the Fifteenth Doctor actor Ncuti Gatwa, who played one of the Kens.

Nicola is now set to make a big impact when she takes a trip though time and space in an undisclosed role.
On joining Doctor Who, Coughlan said:
“I’m excited to join the Whoniverse under the leadership of the inimitable Russell T Davies. I’ve been a fan of Ncuti Gatwa for some time and getting to share the screen with him as the Doctor has been an absolute joy”.
Showrunner, Russell T Davies said:
“This has been the most brilliant shoot, with Nicola lighting up the set and bringing joy. From Derry, via Bridgerton, to the TARDIS, it’s the trip of a lifetime.”
Coughlan will also share the screen with Joel Fry in the Doctor Who festive special in late 2024.
Doctor Who will return on 25 November 2023 with The Star Beast, the first of three Doctor Who 60th anniversary specials starring David Tennant as the Fourteenth Doctor and Catherine Tate as companion Donna Noble — followed by Wild Blue Yonder on 2 December and The Giggle on 9 December.
Ncuti Gatwa will star in his first full Doctor Who episode as the Fifteenth Doctor in the Doctor Who Christmas special The Church on Ruby Road alongside Millie Gibson as companion Ruby Sunday on 25 December.
A new 8-episode Doctor Who series starring Ncuti Gatwa and Millie Gibson will debut in Spring of 2024 followed by the 2024 festive special later in the year.
