Quantum Leap gets a season 2

Quantum Leap – new series not recommissioned for Season 3

The journey is over for Dr Ben Song and his team at the Quantum Leap project.

News has broken (via Deadline) that the updated version of Quantum Leap won’t be continuing to a third season. The show, which airs on NBC in the US, wrapped up its second run in February.

The new Quantum Leap was a follow-up to the original late 80s/early 90s sci-fi show with a heart which starred Scott Bakula and the late Dean Stockwell. The update, which picked up the threads of time travel adventure, starred Raymond Lee as lead scientist Dr Ben Song.

The wider cast included the Ghostbusters legend Ernie Hudson, as well as Nanrisa Lee, Mason Alexander Park and Caitlin Bassett.

Despite a rocky start to production, involving a change of showrunners, Quantum Leap gained additional episodes for its first season and the second season commission came swiftly.

While there’s been no official announcement from NBC, a couple of the show’s stars have taken to social media.

On Instagram, Raymond Lee thanked fans for their support and talked about the friends he has made while working on the show:

Mason Alexander Park (The Sandman), who plays the show’s computer wizard Ian Wright, posted a picture with Raymond Lee and talked about their experience of working on show “… that was full of so much compassion and love.”

UK viewers

In the UK, the show’s first season lives on Paramount+, although there’s no sign of the second season as yet. It’s also available to purchase through Prime Video.

However, for fans of physical media, Season One has also received a UK DVD and Blu-ray release in September 2023 which, given the volatile streaming market, might be worth picking up.
