Benedict Cumberbatch has been giving an interview or two for his new movie, The Current War, that premiered at the Toronto Film Festival last week. And in the midst of one of those chats, you may not be surprised to hear that the subject of Sherlock came up.
Landing the role off the back of his performance in the 2007 movie Atonement, Cumberbatch confessed to The Hollywood Reporter that “I had no idea that it would be that big of a deal”.
Yet immediate following the first series debuting in 2010, Cumberbatch became a household name.
“It was crazy. You could just feel this reaction instantly”, he recalled. “It’s been an extraordinary journey. The good stuff that comes with that is fantastic; the bad stuff that comes with it is fantastically awful”, he added, with a nod to the trappings that fame tends to bring with it.
