Sheen, Tennant and their long-suffering partners return as the pair struggle with working life post-pandemic.
Updated 04/06/23: Thanks to Georgia Tennant’s Instagram, we now have a BBC start date.
Staged series 3 is coming to BBC One and the iPlayer on Wednesday, 14th June 2023 at 10.40 pm.
While the BBC have yet to confirm the news, it’s now listed on the iPlayer. Plus, frankly, given her status as one of the show’s producers as well as one of its stars, Georgia’s word is good enough for us!

Staged Season 3 is ‘coming soon’ to the BBC
Updated 22/05/23: The BBC have confirmed that the third run of the series is “coming soon”.
When Staged‘s third season hopped to the subscription only streamer BritBox last year, we were a touch disappointed. At the time, there was no suggestion that the show would continue to be shown free-to-air.
However, the BBC have now confirmed that Season 3 is on its way to BBC One and the iPlayer. There’s no date yet, but the show is “coming soon”.
Here’s the BBC’s brief synopsis for the upcoming run of episodes:
After a fallout with Michael and David, the director Simon tries his very best to get them to work on a project with him again, however this proves to be a difficult task. Watch the pair navigate life after lockdown in a hilarious third season.
Season 3’s release aimed at the 2022 festive run-up, with the storyline involving the pair collaborating on a Christmas classic. Possibly, this means the BBC will hold on to the show until a similar time in 2023.
In the press release, there’s no mention of whether BBC viewers will also get to see the behind-the-scenes special.
Staged comes from writer/director Simon Evans. He created the show with Phin Glynn and it’s an Infinity Hill and GCB Films production for BBC One and BBC iPlayer. Produced by Phin Glynn, Victor Glynn and Georgia Tennant, the executive producers are David Tennant and Michael Sheen.
We’ll keep you posted on Staged.

The latest season of Staged will premiere on the streamer along with a behind-the-scenes special.
Of all the lockdown endeavours, like streamed National Theatre performances and TikTok’s crowdsourced Ratatouille the Musical, one of the delights was Staged.
Written and directed by Simon Evans, the show starred Michael Sheen and David Tennant, and their long-suffering partners Anna Lundberg and Georgia Tennant.
Together the quartet brought some levity into lockdown with wildly heightened versions of themselves; the plot spun around the two thespians trying and failing to rehearse a pandemic-delayed play over the internet.
A second series followed in January 2021, playing with the idea of the first run’s popularity; the two actors met options for who might play them in a Hollywood remake of Staged. This brought in a host of guest stars including Judi Dench, Ewan McGregor, Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Cate Blanchett.
While there had been no direct confirmation of a third run, the show is back and leaving the BBC. With its premiere set for November 24th, Staged is bound for BritBox UK.

Here’s the premise for Staged Season 3:
Things have returned to normal for David and Michael. They have moved on from lockdown and returned to their everyday working life, while Simon’s career remains stagnant. His phone does ring, but only to ask if he can get David and Michael back together; and they’ve made it clear they want nothing more to do with him. But Christmas is approaching, and Simon hopes the warmth of the season might soften them to the idea of a radio version of a Christmas classic…but that’s as far as Simon’s plan has got!
The Staged Special
In addition, BritBox have a Staged special with mistakes and outtakes, as well as an exploration of the show’s creation. From experiments in filming to character development, it promises a “… unique look back at a unique show produced at the most unique of times.”
You can stream the previous two seasons of Staged, plus the new season and the special from November 24th on BritBox UK.
