The NYCC 2024 panel also revealed clips from Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 3 and Lower Decks’ upcoming final run.
While we’ve not seen a frame of the series yet, Paramount+ have used the window of the New York Comic Con 2024 to announce a second series of Starfleet Academy.
The show, currently in production on its first run, is set in the Star Trek: Discovery 32nd century era and follows a group of cadets in training at the legendary academy.
The series will introduce viewers to this young group of cadets as they come together to pursue a common dream of hope and optimism. Under the watchful and demanding eyes of their instructors, they will discover what it takes to become Starfleet officers as they navigate blossoming friendships, explosive rivalries, first loves, and a new enemy that threatens both the Academy and the Federation itself.
There’s more on the show here, with its young cast announced alongside Holly Hunter, Tig Notaro (Discovery’s engineer Jett Reno) and Robert Picardo (Voyager’s Holographic Doctor).
Plus, Discovery’s Ohed Fehr (Admiral Vance) and Mary Wiseman Sylvia Tilly will also guest star. As will Gina Yashere and Paul Giamatti.
Additionally, we now know that Tatiana Maslany (Orphan Black, She-Hulk) takes on a role in Season 1 as a recurring guest star.
Strange New Worlds Season 3
With Strange New Worlds’ third season filmed, we can expect the show back sometime in 2025. We also know that a fourth season is on the way too.
The NYCC panel announced that New Zealand comic and actor Rhys Darby (Our Flag Means Death) will appear in the upcoming season. He certainly appears to have the hair to rival Anson Mount’s legendary Pike peak!

Lower Decks Season 5

As has become traditional, they also debuted a poster for the season which echoes the design of the similarly numbered Star Trek move. This time, it’s Star Trek V: The Final Frontier.
Star Trek: Lower Decks returns to Paramount+ with a double-episode premiere on Thursday, October 24th 2024.
