“Patience you must have, my young Padawan.”
With a date announcement in February and a trailer drop in March, the Star Wars promotional engine has been working hard for Obi-Wan Kenobi.
Featuring the much-anticipated return of Ewan McGregor to his prequels role, the show will follow the titular Jedi Knight during his time on Tatooine. After the traumatic events of Revenge of the Sith, which saw his former apprentice Anakin Skywalker fall to the dark side and become Darth Vader, Obi-Wan exiled himself to the desert world with one task: to keep an eye on Anakin’s son Luke.
As well as McGregor, the show sees Hayden Christensen reprise his Darth Vader and will bring the feared Jedi hunting Grand Inquisitor (Rupert Friend) to live-action Star Wars. Plus, we’ll have the return of Joel Edgerton and Bonnie Piesse to their roles as Luke’s Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru.
The six-episode series also stars Indira Varma and Moses Ingram and is helmed by The Mandalorian director Deborah Chow.
“Only a Sith deals in absolutes.”
Obi-Wan Kenobi was set to debut on Disney+ on Wednesday, 25th of May and follow a weekly release schedule. However, Ewan McGregor has popped up on twitter to announce a slight change of plan…

So, rather than premiering a single episode on Wednesday 25th, we can instead look forward to a double-drop on Friday, the 27th of May. However, the official Star Wars website confirms that the remaining four episodes will appear on Wednesdays. As such, the show will be out in its entirety by June the 22nd.
Quite what’s prompted this shuffle remains unanswered… could this be a Jedi mind trick?
The original date neatly sat on the 45th anniversary of the original Star Wars movie’s premiere; a fun date to choose but perhaps not terribly significant. We’ve read suggestions that it’s due to Disney+’s busy slate of live action genre shows. To be honest, rather than anything else, we’d guess that’s the most likely explanation.
