Jodie Whittaker is heading to work soon to start filming her first full run of Doctor Who, taking on the title role that she’ll inherit this Christmas. And in a new interview recorded at the recent Edinburgh TV Festival, outgoing Doctor Who executive producer Steven Moffat has been chatting about how the cast of Michelle Gomez as Missy/The Master helped pave the way.
“I suppose we’ve been heading in this direction for a while with the Master becoming a woman”, he said. “I always thought the moment the Master became a woman, the Doctor would never allow that to stand without have a go at the same!”
Moffat is a big fan of Jodie Whittaker’s casting as the 13th Doctor, and he added that “never mind the fact everyone’s talking about how it’s a woman – it’s Jodie Whittaker! That’s the great thing. Jodie Whittaker, one of the best actors of her generation, is playing the Doctor!”
