The Boys news is about their Emmy Award nominations, but also a chance to point out a ‘stealth’ spin-off you might not have appreciated
The Emmy Awards
The Boys has a total of five Emmy Award (2021) nominations. Not vast in the scheme of things (and we’ll be covering some of those), but still good, particular when you look at the list:
Outstanding Original Music And Lyrics
Outstanding Drama Series
Outstanding Sound Mixing For A Comedy Or Drama Series (One Hour)
Outstanding Special Visual Effects In A Season Or A Movie
Outstanding Writing For A Drama Series
But; and there’s a but — these all overlap with all the other big names in this years 73rd Awards. Taking the Outstanding Drama Series alone, the full list is:
The Boys
Bridgerton
The Crown
The Handmaid’s Tale
Lovecraft Country
The Mandalorian
Pose
This is Us
That said, we do wish The Boys well, and would like to see them win something.
That ‘secret’ spin-off series
Meanwhile, there’s a sort of spin-off series for The Boys, and it’s already started. A few weeks ago we covered the Vought International item on Starlight’s superb song Never Truly Vanish. It turns out Amazon intends to release a new Vought International video on the 7th (of course) day of each month. They fill gaps in the story from season 2 to season 3, no huge detail but enough to keep the show alive for fans. It’s a nice idea, and one we see other shows taking up.
The latest is a mix of ‘news’ on Homelander, as well as a great spoof advert for bed-linen. You can watch it here.
