The Mandela Catalogue deal has been made

There’s no stopping the hype train for adapting popular online horror stories with the latest deal for The Mandela Catalogue being made.

With the current success of Backrooms and the upcoming project of Siren Head being in development, it looks as though another viral horror story will be added to the slate of productions as Amazon MGM Studios and Steven Spielberg (Disclosure Day) have landed a deal to develop a particularly popular story for the big screen.

What’s The Mandela Catalogue even about?

Credited a lot to YouTuber Alex Kister, the series has amassed over 100 million views – not counting the inspired fan spinoffs. Taking place in the imagined county of Mandela in Wisconsin, the town is dealing with an issue beyond imagination – almost immortal shape-shifters are taking over the town, almost resembling their human counterparts. Told mostly through fabricated footage of PSAs and surreal corrupted video footage, there’s plenty of storytelling to work with when adapting the source material for cinema. The series has garnered a large fan base over the years, which could pose a challenge for the more mainstream inheritors when it comes to hitting the same impressive numbers as previous films in the indie horror gold rush.

 Who’s behind the adaptation?

The deal has only just been freshly struck, so here’s a long list of producers attached – Spielberg, Holly Bario (Ghost in the Shell), Aaron B. Koontz (Revival), Scott Stuber (Ted), Nick Nesbitt (Repo Men), Kister and Annie McCreery (The Tenant).
