Will The Orville fly again for a Season 4? Cast member Scott Grimes thinks so…
It’s been an age since The Orville dropped its most recent season on us. Rebranded The Orville: New Horizons, the show last landed on Hulu, and Disney+ internationally, back in June 2022.
The show, conceived by, written, directed and starring Seth MacFarlane began as a comic homage to 90s Star Trek. However, across three seasons, the show built its own following and tackled some impactful issues. Albeit while not being shy of a fart gag or a prat fall along the way.
Certainly there are dangling plot threads – including the future of Captain Ed Mercer’s Krill half-daughter and success of the marriage between the synthetic Isaac and the Dr Finn. Plus the political shift brought to the universe by the Moclan/Krill alliance
In January 2024, Seth MacFarlane was still optimistic, suggesting that there was “no death certificate” written. Prior to that Adrianne Palicki, the show’s Commander Kelly Grayson, commented that she felt that the show was likely done. She cited difficulties for the cast with the show’s intermittent schedule.
Filming to resume in 2025?
Now, star Scott Grimes, appearing at the recent Star Trek Las Vegas convention, has apparently claimed that filming resumes in 2025.
It’s far from official confirmation, and may have been simply aspirational, but it’s worth noting that Grimes is a frequent MacFarlane collaborator. He starred in the recent series Ted, a television prequel to two foul-mouthed teddy bear movies which provided MacFarlane with big screen success in the 2010’s. That’s been confirmed for a second season too and it’s fair to assume that it might take priority over more of The Orville.
We guess it’s a matter of keeping fingers crossed… in the meantime, the previous three seasons live on Hulu/Disney+.
