Marvel Studios released a new trailer for Black Widow with the strapline “We have unfinished business.”
It now seems the date for Black Widow is sitting firm at July 9; last year we reported a May release, then Disney+ decided on a change of strategy (pandemic led) and move it to July 9. This was announced with news the film would also be available in theatre and streaming (for an extra cost, possible around £20), much as they’ve done with Cruella. Premier Access definitely looks set to stay.
Meanwhile the new trailer (and motif of unfinished business) runs for two minutes, and mixes plenty of action with plenty of introspection and backstory. The cast (apart from Scarlet Johansson as Natasha Romanoff, Black Widow), includes Florence Pugh, David Harbour, O-T Fagbenle, William Hurt, Ray Winstone and Rachel Weisz. Pugh plays Yelena Belova (Romanoff’s sister) and Rachel Weisz plays (former) comrade Melina Vostokoff. The trailer makes it clear the unfinished business concerns (at least) Vostokoff.
There’s no sign of the evidence for the ever-popular “Florence Pugh is the next Black Widow” rumour, and as Romanoff [SPOILER] doesn’t survive Avengers: Endgame, this film is a prequel in some ways. Knowing Marvel, anything is possible. You can watch the trailer yourself and see what other clues you can spot.
