Filming is underway on this year’s Doctor Who Christmas episode and the special’s director has been confirmed.
The new issue of DWM reveals that Ed Bazalgette will helm 2016’s festive outing.
Bazalgette has previously directed episodes of Poldark, Casualty and DCI Banks.
He also directed two of last year’s Doctor Who episodes, ‘The Girl Who Died’ and ‘The Woman Who Lived’, which introduced Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams as Ashildr.
The Christmas special is written by Steven Moffat, who announced in June that the Christmas ep will not feature Pearl Mackie and that new companion Bill won’t be introduced until the first episode of Season 10 next year.
He teased: “So there’ll be somebody else – a different, guest companion – this Christmas, like how River Song played the companion role in last year’s Special.”
It emerged last month that Matt Lucas will return as Nardole alongside Peter Capaldi’s Doctor this Christmas.
The Little Britain star made his debut as Nardole, who met the Doctor on the human colony of Mendorax Dellora in the year 5343, in ‘The Husbands of River Song’ and will be a recurring character in next year’s run.
Season 10 began filming in Cardiff in June and will begin on BBC One in April 2017.
Here’s everything we know so far about Season 10.
Ed Bazalgette has also directed several episodes of BBC Three’s new Doctor Who spin-off, Class, which starts next month.
