Returning classic ‘Doctor Who’ writer confirmed for Season 10!

Sylvester McCoy

It was now been officially announced which classic series writer will be returning to Doctor Who to pen an episode for the new season.

12 new episodes are currently filming in Cardiff and will begin airing on BBC One in April 2017.

Here’s everything we know so far about Season 10.

It has been rumoured for a while that, for the first time since Doctor Who was relaunched in 2005, a writer from the show’s classic era would be making a return in Season 10.

The new issue of Doctor Who Magazine (out now) has now confirmed that Rona Munro, who previously wrote 1989’s ‘Survival’, has written the ninth episode of 2017’s season.

‘Survival’ was the final episode of Doctor Who to air before the show’s 16-year hiatus.

It was reported this week that Peter Capaldi and new co-star Pearl Mackie will be departing as the Twelfth Doctor his latest companion Bill Potts after Season 10, allowing new showrunner Chris Chibnall a “clean slate” when he takes over in 2018.

Several brand new monsters for Season 10 have also been revealed this week.

Are you looking forward to Rona Munro’s new episode? Let us know below…

Its only been reported in “The Mirror” concerning the departure of Peter Capaldi and Pearl Mackie. Not confirmed, as yet, by the BBC.

    • Paul Mount

It’s not the sort of thing they’re going to confirm at this stage. I daresay it’ll be announced before the start of the run, hopefully to build up some momentum and sorely-needed public interest in the series as it moves towards the regeneration.

        That’s assuming it’s even true.
We knew much further in advance when David Tennant was leaving, for example.

If Peter is going then you’d think we’d have heard it when we heard the same thing about Steven.

If that video is an example of Rona Munro’s writing, I’m not terribly impressed. That was awful. Although I have much faith that whatever they do for next year’s episode will be a vast improvement.

I thought graham harper (caves of andozani) also directed episodes of the new modern who show?

Anyone who has seen Survival will know why I’m so excited.
That story is the one that effectively defined how NewWho’s character-driven narratives have been written. Plus it’s arguably the best the Master has ever been written since Delgado passed away.

I’m so hyped for her returning!
