Years and Years: Emma Thompson, Rory Kinnear and more join Russell T Davies drama

Following the huge success of A Very English Scandal Russell T Davies is penning a new futuristic drama, Years and Years – starring Emma Thompson, Rory Kinnear and a bunch more stars…

Years and Years will be a limited six-part series and take place in a future vision of UK. As Britain is rocked by unstable political, economic and technological advances, the series follows the Lyons family as their complex lives converge on one crucial night in 2019. Then, over the next 15 years, the twists and turns of everyday life are explored as we find out if this ordinary family could ever change the world.

Thompson will star as an outspoken celebrity turned political figure whose controversial opinions divide the nation (sound familiar?). She’s a new breed of politician, an entertainer, a rebel, a trickster, and her rise to power leads us into an unknown future.

Additionally, Rory Kinnear will play Stephen Lyons, a financial advisor and the family’s peacekeeper who is married to Celeste played by T’Nia Miller, an ambitious and opinionated accountant.

Russell Tovey is Daniel Lyons, a hard-working housing officer and Stephen’s brother. Their sister Edith, played by Jessica Hynes is radical, dangerous and calculating with a secret life. And completing the siblings is heavily pregnant Rosie, played by Ruth Madeley, while Anne Reid presides over the family as Muriel, imperial grandmother to the Lyons.

It’s a star-studded cast and definitely one to look out for. Given the calibre of folk in front of and behind the camera, it’s already one of our most-anticipated 2019 dramas.
