5 modern ‘Doctor Who’ monsters and villains who should return

Posted Filed under

Following our recent look at some forgotten classic Doctor Who monsters, here are some more recent one-off menaces that we feel deserve a return…

The Krillitane

Doctor Who School Reunion

Seen in:

‘School Reunion’ (2006)

What were they?

Bat-like creatures with a flexible biology.

Why should they come back?

These monstrous, carnivorous shape-changers presented with the ability to adapt their biology, taking what they needed from other species; in ‘School Reunion’ they were bat-like.

Fronted by Brother Lassar (Anthony Head) they sought to harness the power of human children’s minds, albeit souped-up on Krillitane Oil, in an attempt to crack a formula that would give like god-like abilities. That kind of ambition doesn’t usually take no for an answer!

The Vashta Nerada

Doctor Who Vashta Nerada

Seen in:

‘Silence in the Library’ / ‘Forest of the Dead’ (2008)

Who were they?

Shadow-like microscopic swarms.

Why should they come back?

The ‘shadows that melt the flesh’ had infested the Library planet, but we were told they also exist on most planets, born as microscopic spores in trees.

Playing on our fear of the dark and with the Doctor’s penchant for tunnels and dimly lit corridors, he surely needs to run into these hungry living shadows again.
