Big Finish 2026 highlights

Big Finish audio drama: what we’re looking forward to in 2026

Posted Filed under

Expect classic and modern Doctors, new companions and more from Big Finish Productions in 2026.

With new ranges for recast Doctors, and box sets for many of the original cast, it looks to be another busy year for the Doctor Who audio drama producers.

We’ve peeked at their slate of upcoming releases for the New Year and picked a few potential highlights…

Star Cops: Conflict

It’s not all Doctor Who at Big Finish, so a new six-part run of Star Cops tops our list. The show kicks off Conflict, its fifth audio series, in January. The action begins with ‘Suspicion and Sabotage’ by Andrew Smith.

With Earth’s vital mineral resources running low, and worldwide suspicion over the true purpose of a mission to mine the asteroid belt, international tensions are running high.

A series of suspected sabotage incidents at the Moon’s south pole, and an attempted assassination on Earth, threaten to provoke tensions to the point of war.

Can the officers of the International Space Police Force avert an escalating catastrophe?

Conflict drops in monthly instalments from January to March, and then from September to November. It stars original television cast members David Calder, Trevor Cooper and Linda Newton, alongside Philip Olivier and Lynsey Murrell.

Star Cops: Conflict also contains stories from writers Georgina Cook, Roland Moore and Mark Wright.

The Eleventh Doctor Adventures: The First Question

After the well-regarded run starring Jacob Dudman as the Doctor, actor Miles Taylor takes the Eleventh Doctor forward in a new series of adventures. It begins in March with The First Question, a three-part box set.

The Eleventh Doctor Adventures

Doctor who? The universe has forgotten the Doctor, or so the Doctor hopes. But there are still adventures to be had, evil to be fought, and lives to save. From 1990s Hong Kong, to the depths of space in the far future, and back in time to the Salem witch trials, the Doctor stands firm in his opposition to tyranny and injustice.

Taylor’s Eleventh Doctor will welcome new companion Eleanor Fong, played by Jasmine Bayes (UNIT’s Corporal Sullivan).

The stories come from Lisa McMullin & Max Kashevsky and Beth Axford, with a solo script from Lisa McMullin too.

The First Doctor Adventures: Beware the City of Illusions

The First Doctor Adventures has been catching up with companions in their later lives, and March sees Polly (Anneke Wills) return as Polly alongside Stephen Noonan’s Doctor and Lauren Cornelius as Dodo.

The First Doctor Adventures: Beware the City of Illusions

The British government has a plan to drastically improve environmental conditions, thanks to the Gynt Foundation and its mysterious benefactor, ‘Mr Hammond’. But the plan is bold and crucially requires the endorsement of a prominent green campaigner to allay any public fears.

When the Doctor’s former companion Polly sets off to investigate a fantastic, new, net zero city, nothing goes quite according to plan. For one thing, the Doctor himself unexpectedly appears. And for another, the city contains a terrible secret.

With an older Dodo working for the government, the Doctor and Polly must fight a threat that endangers the whole of humanity.

‘Beware the City of Illusions’ comes from Nicholas Briggs, who both writes and directs.

The Fourth Doctor Adventures: The Ministry of Death

The 15th series of Tom Baker’s audio adventures at Big Finish introduces the Fourth Doctor’s essential companion, Sarah Jane Smith. Actress Sadie Miller (daughter of the late Elisabeth Sladen) has already played her in Lost Stories and spin-offs for a number of years, particularly alongside Tim Treloar’s Third Doctor.

The first box set contains two Earth-based stories…

‘The Ministry of Death’ by Robert Valentine

When the Brigadier uses the Space-Time Telegraph to summon the Doctor and Sarah Jane from their travels, they know it’ll be for something unusual. But neither could possibly expect something quite this strange.

An electronics expert has died after being struck by lightning. But how could this possibly happen in his office? And that’s only the first death they discover.

A wild scheme is underway. A case of twisted science and revenge. That’s about to hit closer to home than they could possibly anticipate

‘The Inhuman Empire’ by Phil Mulryne

Sarah is contacted by an old friend who knows her predilection for ‘rum goings on’, asking her to investigate unusual activities at the National Museum. Sarah agrees to look into it, with the Doctor tagging along – but they soon discover things are worse than they thought.

Because the Museum is host to alien activity – very familiar aliens at that. And if they don’t stop these relic hunters quickly, then humanity itself might not survive.

The Ministry of Death is the first of the box sets for 2026, with further releases in June and September. The series also stars Jon Culshaw as the Brigadier, with Christopher Naylor as Harry Sullivan.

The Twelfth Doctor Adventures: Run Fast, Be Kind

2026 also heralds a new series of full-cast adventures for the Twelfth Doctor. Jon Culshaw takes on the role for a six-part run titled Run Fast, Be Kind.

Set between Christmas Specials  ‘The Husbands of River Song’ and ‘The Return of Doctor Mysterio’, it aims to fill a lost series long gap.

The run introduces new companion Ashlorn ‘Ash’ Wilton (Gwithian Evans), a wandering bard from a dying world at the end of the universe, and is the brainchild of writer/producer Alfie Shaw.

After a chance encounter at the end of time, the Doctor has a new friend and a new mission. History is full of people who need help and evils to be fought. The universe needs the Doctor and Ash.

The 6-part series rolls out with weekly instalments across July and August.

Torchwood – three final tales from its main range

Torchwood, Doctor Who‘s sister series has three more instalments from it’s regular, originally monthly, range which began way back in September 2015 with ‘The Conspiracy’.

January brings ‘Everyone’s Dead on Floor 3’, March has ‘Curtain’ and May brings ‘Fare Well’, all from the pen of series producer James Goss.

Torchwood: Everyone's Dead on Floor 3

‘Everyone’s Dead on Floor 3’

1954, an ordinary morning at Matthews and Small, until the screaming starts. Racing upstairs, they find everyone’s dead on floor three.

What was the mysterious firm upstairs? Can the prompt arrival of an investigator from Torchwood find a traitor?

Samuel Barnett stars as Torchwood’s 50’s agent Norton Folgate.

‘Curtain’

Many years ago, the Palace Theatre burnt down during a performance that accidentally summoned the devil.

Now the cast have been invited back to the grand reopening by a mysterious figure. Who is Bilis Manger?

‘Fare Well’

Ianto Jones and Tommy Pierce have fought many alien invaders together. They’re more than work colleagues, they’re friends. But their friendship is about to be put to the test as they prepare to face a Cyberman.

A Cyberman in a cellar.

In the village of Wetwang.

Gareth David-Lloyd stars as Ianto Jones, alongside Timothy Bentinck as Tommy Pierce.

Torchwood Fighting the Future

Beyond this, the future of Torchwood on audio at Big Finish remains up in the air – although at least two further releases, Torchwood: Legacy Volumes One and Two, are promised.

Writer James Goss says:

“There’s one final release. It’s called Legacy, it’s all been recorded, it’s a celebration of twenty years of Torchwood and ten years of Torchwood at Big Finish, and that’s all that can be said at the moment. But it’s something we’re all really proud of.”

The Ninth and Thirteenth Doctors, and more…

Additionally, we’ve been enjoying both the Ninth Doctor and Rose, and Thirteenth Doctor and Yaz stories this year. Both series continue their bi-monthly release pattern throughout 2026.

There’s also more Unbound First Doctor with David Bradley, another series which continues their update of Irwin Allen’s The Time Tunnel. Plus more UNIT: Brave New World with Angela Bruce’s Brigadier Bambera, and two more trilogies from the Dark Gallifrey saga.

All the releases we’ve listed are available to pre-order from Big Finish now.
