In a brief interview with the Metro when asked to describe Doctor Who Series 12, Jodie Whittaker teased, “Pandora’s box will be opened.”
Pandora is the woman from Greek mythology who, letting her curiosity get the better of her, unknowingly opened a container housing evils, which were then loosed upon the world.
There are possibly some clues from the dialogue from the Doctor Who Series 12 trailer where the Doctor’s companion Graham asks, “What have you brought here Doctor?,” to which the Doctor answers, “I don’t know.”
Also in the trailer an apprehensive Doctor states, “Something’s coming for me. I can feel it.”
In the holiday issue of Radio Times, Jodie Whittaker teased, “There are things that happen in the new season that throw the Doctor in a way that there’s a slight freefall to it. And the freefall is at moments exhilarating and at moments terrifying.”
In SFX magazine, Jodie Whittaker described a potentially dangerous trait of the Doctor.
“For me,it’s never stepping into a situation and deciding you know how it’s going to end. That’s quite a human trait, because we need control, and we need structure. You don’t want to get off a train if you don’t know where you are – you won’t just randomly get off at a different stop. The Doctor would absolutely do that! And feeling that freefall is okay. I think that jumping in feet-first, having fear and not knowing if you’re going to succeed, and doing it anyway, is the trait of the Doctor.”
It sounds as if the Doctor has a lot in common with Pandora.
