David Tennant might not be in Doctor Who anymore, but he certainly knows a few things about the people in it. New showrunner Chris Chibnall and new Doctor Jodie Whittaker were both part of the Broadchurch team, of course, along with Tennant. And as it turns out, Tennant has been keeping in touch with them as they set about making Doctor Who series 11.
At Wizard World in Cleveland, Tennant revealed that “when we were doing the last season of Broadchurch, Chris was beginning work on Doctor Who, and working with writers”.
He teased that “I know he’s bringing in lots of writers who’ve not worked on the show before… I think he’s looking for some fresh energies and new eyes on it”.
And whilst not naming names, he added of Chris Chibnall that “he’s got some amazing people working on the show, that’ll be exciting”.
This tallies with previously reports of very few writers returning for the new series, as Chibnall looks to take Doctor Who in a slightly different direction. When we find out who those writers are, we’ll let you know…
