Doctor Who companion Ruby Sunday is a musician in a band

In Doctor Who Magazine 598, companion Ruby Sunday, played by Millie Gibson, is revealed to be a musical band member.

In an article about The Church on Ruby Road, the music in the Christmas special was described.

“We also have Ruby’s band and then a massive musical big band number with music-loving goblins, who really go for it in a biiiig way!”

In another article about Ruby’s family, it is revealed that she is skilled at the keyboard.

“She’s a gifted keyboardist in a band.”

During the Doctor Who @ 60: A Musical Celebration concert in Cardiff on 28 September 2023, Russell T Davies revealed to the audience that Ruby Sunday will play her own theme, The Life of Sunday, on the piano. You can listen to the entire concert on BBC Sounds. The Life of Sunday, described as wistful waltz theme, begins at 1:32:40 in the programme.

The Church on Ruby Road will be available globally on 25 December, 17:55 GMT. The special will transmit exclusively on BBC One and BBC iPlayer in the UK and Ireland at 5:55pm BT and stream exclusively on Disney+ outside the UK and Ireland.

A new 8-episode Doctor Who series starring Ncuti Gatwa and Millie Gibson will debut in Spring of 2024 followed by the 2024 festive special later in the year.
