To celebrate the return of Doctor Who on Christmas Day, a fiendishly catchy song from the festive special The Church on Ruby Road will be released early as a single on Monday, December 11.
The Goblin Song is an original composition created specifically for the Fifteenth Doctor’s festive debut by composer Murray Gold and Doctor Who showrunner Russell T Davies.
The single’s music video shares exclusive content from The Church on Ruby Road. It is said to be a “show-stopping musical number” featuring Ncuti Gatwa, Millie Gibson and a cast of goblins. Davies describes it as a “massive musical big band number with music-loving goblins.”
Murray Gold said:
“I don’t like these goblins and you won’t either but they have agreed to donate everything from their song to BBC Children in Need so let’s not give up on them”.
Claire Hoyle, Director of Income & Engagement at BBC Children in Need said:
“We’re delighted to continue our long standing relationship with Doctor Who, and we are so grateful for their support with this Christmas single.”
Russell T Davies said:
“We’re releasing this as an early Christmas present for everyone. And if you want to see how the Doctor and Ruby escape from the Goblin King at the end of the song, you’ll have to watch on Christmas Day!”
The Goblin Song is available on BBC Sounds from Monday 11 December and will also be available via Spotify, Apple Music and Deezer. All proceeds will go to BBC Children in Need.
The Church on Ruby Road will be available on 25 December exclusively on BBC One and BBC iPlayer in the UK and Ireland at 5:55pm BT and exclusively on Disney+ outside the UK and Ireland.
A new 8-episode Doctor Who series starring Ncuti Gatwa and Millie Gibson will debut in Spring of 2024 followed by the 2024 festive special later in the year.
