Rachel Talalay is apparently on the shortlist to direct the upcoming Captain Marvel film.
Oscar-winner Brie Larson (The Room) was officially announced at San Diego Comic-Con 2016 to play Carol Danvers in the first female-led movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Captain Marvel is set for release in cinemas on 8 March 2019.
The shortlist of directors is now down to ten possible candidates, ScreenRant reports, including Niki Caro (Whale Rider) and Jennifer Kent (The Babadook).
Punisher: War Zone director Lexi Alexander confirmed yesterday that she is not on the list, but revealed that Rachel Talalay is.
I’m not on the list but I believe @rtalalay is and I couldn’t imagine a better director for it https://t.co/JeiXzvufP4

Talalay has directed four of the most acclaimed episodes of Doctor Who in recent years – ‘Dark Water’, ‘Death in Heaven’, ‘Heaven Sent’ and ‘Hell Bent’ – and recently shot the opening episode for the fourth season of Sherlock.
She has also directed episodes of DC Comics’ hit television series The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow.
The new season of Doctor Who began filming last month and will air on BBC One in spring 2017.
