A Doctor Who film crew from production company Bad Wolf Ltd filmed David Tennant, Catherine Tate and Yasmin Finney for the first of five night shoots on Axminster Road in Cardiff on 3 June.

Extras playing UNIT (Unified Intelligence Task Force) soldiers and military-style vehicles with the UNIT logo were employed for the filming.

The same London taxi used for the Camden filming was also brought to the location. Shaun Temple (Karl Collins) who portrays Donna Noble’s (Katherine Tate) husband was revealed to be the taxi driver.

The Axminster Road location stands in for a road in London called Bachelor Road. The episode filmed at this location takes place some time between 11 November, 2022 and 11 November 2025. The scene likely takes place in 2023 because the episode is set to air in 2023 as part of the Doctor Who 60th anniversary celebrations. Doctor Who celebrates the 60th anniversary of its first transmission on 23 November, 2023.

David Tennant had a double for the night’s filming.

One of the scenes filmed was of Rose (Yasmin Finney) walking into a house while two extras on bicycles rode past.

Another scene showed UNIT soldiers converging upon a house.

Fans took photos and videos of UNIT vehicles.

The street in front of house at the intersection of Church Terrace and Axminster Road will be the site of a controlled vehicle explosion on Thursday night.

Director Rachel Talalay shared a slate from the filming. The slate doesn’t indicate it’s an anniversary special but instead indicates Episode 1, Scene 44.

Night shoots on Axminster Road in Cardiff will resume Monday, 6 June and continue until Thursday, 9 June.
