Da Vinci’s Demons star Tom Riley has claimed that Doctor Who newcomer Peter Capaldi will “absolutely smash it”.

Riley will guest star in Series 8’s third episode, written by Sherlock co-creator Mark Gatiss, which is currently filming.

The actor told Flicks And The City: “Peter [Capaldi] is going to completely revitalise the show. He’s going to bring something completely different to the Doctor.”

He added: “When you change the lead actor, everything’s going to change. You can rest assured he’s going to absolutely smash it.”

Riley’s episode of Doctor Who is rumoured to be titled ‘Robots of Sherwood’, with speculation that he will be playing Robin Hood.

Series 8 is currently filming in Cardiff and will begin airing on BBC One in the autumn.
