Doctor Who star Matt Smith sounds hopeful that more movies in the Terminator franchise “may get picked up in the future.”
It was revealed last month that the planned sequel to 2015’s Terminator Genisys movie has been officially removed from Paramount’s release schedule following the disappointing reaction and poor box office results for the reboot.

A sequel had been scheduled for release on 19 May 2017 in the US, but the Baywatch movie, starring Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron, will now take its intended release date.
Discussing the apparent cancellation of the planned sequel, Matt Smith told Den of Geek: “You know what films are like. You’ve got to make one if you are going to make the other. I entered it with that in mind, to see what would happen next. Yeah, it’s news to me that that’s the case.”
He added: “But, who knows? You never know. It may get picked up in the future.”
The fifth movie in the Terminator franchise was released in cinemas last July, starring Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones) as Sarah Connor, Jai Courtney (A Good Day to Die Hard) as Kyle Reese and Jason Clarke (Zero Dark Thirty) as John Connor.
Matt Smith revealed last year that he was contracted for future films in the rebooted franchise: “I am part of the sequels, yes, so I’ll be around for two and three.”
