Shaun of the Dead star Nick Frost has hinted at what to expect from his role in this year’s Doctor Who Christmas special.
‘Last Christmas’ will feature Frost as Father Christmas, following his brief cameo appearance at the end of last month’s finale, ‘Death in Heaven’.
The actor told TV & Satellite Week magazine: “I wanted to make him slightly edgy and cross at times and a bit like a gangster.”
He added: “I want viewers to be kept in the dark as to his intentions, so you don’t know if he’s good or if he’s evil.”
The magazine also hinted at the special’s monsters: “The Doctor and Clara are called into action when the crew of a polar base come under attack from a mysterious band of new villains known as the Sleepers and the Dream Crabs.”

Written by showrunner Steven Moffat, ‘Last Christmas’ also guest stars Misfits actor Nathan McMullen and Michael Troughton, the son of actor Patrick Troughton, who played the Second Doctor.
