In a zoom call with Doctor Who Showrunner Chris Chibnall during filming of Series 13 in November, Total TV Guide magazine learned that a new scene, filmed recently, was added to the New Year’s special, Revolution of the Daleks. The special completed principal photography at the end of October 2019. Here is what the magazine gleaned from their conversation with the Showrunner:
“Following six months of R&D [research and development], production got under way on the next series in a new, COVID-19-safe form. Indeed, one scene inserted into the special – the majority of which was shot in 2019 – was filmed under these new conditions, as part of a test day on set.”
This is no word on what it contains but, considering Revolution of the Daleks is a New Year’s special and 2020 has been such an eventful year, the new scene could possibly acknowledge those events.
Although the special is listed as 71 minutes, 75 minutes of air time is allotted for the special.
Total TV Guide is available at UK newsstands now. The issue features an interview with Captain Jack actor John Barrowman as well as Chris Chibnall.
Written by Chris Chibnall and directed by Lee Haven Jones, the 71-minute Doctor Who New Year’s special, Revolution of the Daleks will air on New Year’s Day, January 1, 2021 at 6:45 p.m. on BBC One and 8:00 p.m. on BBC America.
