Doctor Who: Time Fracture, an immersive experience which opens in London in February 2021, has added a video performance to the adventure featuring Doctor Who star Jemma Redgrave as UNIT Chief Scientific Officer Kate Lethbridge-Stewart.
A portrait of her father, the late UNIT Brigadier General Alistair Lethbridge-Stewart, appears above her as she implores players to “step up and save the universe.”
“1940 – it’s the height of the Blitz. A weapon of unknown origin destroys a small corner of Mayfair, and simultaneously opens a rift in space and time. For decades, UNIT have fought undetected to protect the people of Earth from the dangers it poses. Weakened and beaten back as the fracture’s multiplied out of control, they’re close to defeat.
Earth as we know it is at stake – now is the time for you to step up and be the hero. We’ll travel to impossible places, confronting menacing monsters and ancient aliens along the way. It’s a journey across space and time to save our race, and our beautiful planet.”
In Doctor Who Magazine 556, it is revealed that the events in the 2009 autumn Doctor Who special The Waters of Mars are the cause of the fracture in time. When the tenth Doctor arrogantly declares himself “Time Lord Victorious” after rescuing Adelaide Brooke from certain death on Mars, saying he can save anyone and change history in any way he chooses, Brooke defies him by committing suicide in her home in London. The change in time and place of her death is what causes the fracture in time, with repercussions spreading backward and forward. “Now someone has exploited that weakness – and the universe is dying.”
Created by the team behind The Great Gatsby, the UK’s longest running immersive show, Doctor Who: Time Fracture is a part of Time Lord Victorious, BBC Studios’ new multi-platform Doctor Who story.
It is not yet known if any other Doctor Who stars will appear as part of the immersive adventure but one of the thirteenth Doctor’s boots and one of the tenth Doctor’s “sand-shoes” arrived at a UNIT installation through the fracture in time in the initial video released for the adventure.
David Tennant reprises his role as the tenth Doctor for Time Lord Victorious in Echoes of Extinction a Big Finish audio drama with eighth Doctor actor Paul McGann.
Doctor Who: Time Fracture will run from February 17 to April 11, 2021. Tickets are available at the bottom of their website.
