From Shakespeare to the Starship Enterprise, Patrick Stewart in his own words.
For many, Patrick Stewart is indelibly linked with his science fiction and fantasy roles; from Gurney Hallek in David Lynch’s Dune to his lengthy run as Professor Charles Xavier in the X-Men movie franchise.
Then of course there’s Jean-Luc Picard, everyone’s favourite Earl Grey tea drinking Enterprise captain. Stewart took the redoubtable Captain through seven seasons of Star Trek: The Next Generation, before heading to the big screen. More recently, he’s reprised the character again on television for a three-season run in Picard.
Of course, before all that, Stewart was a well-renowned thespian having played numerous roles for the Royal Shakespeare Company and the National Theatre.
Making It So: A Memoir
Now, the actor has put pen to paper to tell his story.
Here’s the publisher’s blurb:
From his acclaimed stage triumphs to his legendary onscreen work in the Star Trek and X-Men franchises, Sir Patrick Stewart has captivated audiences around the world and across multiple generations with his indelible command of stage and screen. Now, he presents his long-awaited memoir, MAKING IT SO, a revealing portrait of an artist whose astonishing life—from his humble beginnings in Yorkshire, England to the heights of Hollywood and worldwide acclaim—proves a story as exuberant, definitive, and enduring as the author himself.
However, we wonder if there will be room for his infamous comment to Doctor Who star Lalla Ward? Pre-ST:TNG, he queried why she bothered with television and science fiction, rather than proper theatre acting. It probably hasn’t made make the edit!
Making It So: A Memoir by Patrick Stewart is published by Gallery UK on October 3rd, 2023. It’s available to pre order now (definitely one for the Christmas list!)
