Dr Norma Callahan and Dr George Adjei will return to investigate another case of Malpractice.
Updated 09/07/24: Series 2 cast and storyline revealed.
ITV’s medical thriller series Malpractice is moving into a second series as the Medical Investigation Unit take on another case.
In December’s recommission announcement, it was confirmed that Helen Behan (The Virtues) and Jordan Kouamé (Scoop) are reprising their roles as Dr Norma Callahan and Dr George Adjei respectively.
Now, with filming underway in Belfast, ITV and World Productions (Line of Duty) have revealed who is joining them…
It’s Ace Bhatti (Line of Duty), Selin Hizli (Am I Being Unreasonable?), Tom Hughes (Victoria), Zoë Telford (The Lazarus Project), Seraphina Beh (Top Boy) and Hannah McClean (Blue Lights).
The producers have also revealed the storyline for the series:
Tom Hughes will play Dr James Ford, a Psychiatric Registrar in a North Yorkshire hospital. His personal life is a mess, and his colleagues might find him arrogant, but he appears committed to his vulnerable patients. So when he finds himself torn between a new mother attending a routine postnatal check-up and the sectioning of a floridly psychotic woman during a busy on-call shift, no one could predict the terrible consequences.
As George and Norma uncover a hospital seemingly at war with itself, to what lengths will James go to preserve his position? Is he a doctor with a God complex or the victim of wider problems?
The five-part series two of Malpractice comes from creator and writer Grace Ofori-Attah, with Hannah K. Richards penning episode 3. The directors are Anthony Philipson (Day of the Jackal) and Jennifer Sheridan (Extraordinary). Chrissy Skinns (A Spy Among Friends) produces.
Executive Producer and Writer, Grace Ofori-Attah, said:
“I’m thrilled to be bringing back a second series of Malpractice. This time, I’m excited to be delving into the world of Psychiatry, my medical specialty, with an incredible cast led by Tom Hughes, and fantastic crew led by Anthony Philipson. I can’t wait to get started.”
