A team of intrepid warriors come together for a tale of resistance in Netfix’s upcoming space fantasy.
Hotly anticipated by his fans, the first shots from Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon have emerged as part of Netfix’s 2023 movie preview.
It’s the story of a small colony on the outskirts of the galaxy, targeted by an insidious empire. Inspired by Akira Kurosawa’s Seven Samurai, the story promises a tale of galactic resistance.
The streamer’s “Save The Dates” promo offers a release schedule for the year, including Luther: The Fallen Sun (March 1oth), and concludes with the space epic.
Okay, it’s less than 10 seconds of footage – but what’s there is all-action with explosions and a cool looking ship. Plus, Djimon Hounsou being incredibly demonstrative!
While it’s not mentioned in the Netflix promo for the movie, Rebel Moon is the first of a two-part story. That’s now confirmed via Variety: apparently the story was so big it demanded two movies, filmed back-to-back.
Here’s the premise for Rebel Moon:
When a peaceful colony on the edge of the galaxy finds itself threatened by the armies of the tyrannical Regent Balisarius, they dispatch a young woman with a mysterious past named Kora to seek out warriors from neighboring planets to help them take a stand.
Rebel Moon has gathered an impressive cast; led by Sofia Boutella and Djimon Hounsou, it includes Ed Skrein, Michiel Huisman, Bae Doona, Ray Fisher, Charlie Hunnam. Plus, Anthony Hopkins as the voice of Jimmy.
Also in the ensemble are Cary Elwes, Corey Stoll, Jena Malone, Fra Fee, Cleopatra Coleman, Alfonso Herrera, Stuart Martin, Staz Nair, Sky Yang, Rhian Rees, E. Duffy and Charlotte Maggi.
It’s a long old year until Rebel Moon‘s release date of December 22nd. We’ll keep you posted Netflix reveals more.
