In the 2024 Doctor Who series episode Rogue, the Fifteenth Doctor (Ncuti Gatwa) is scanned and a surprising face joins images of his past incarnations.
Richard E Grant’s face is included in the images revolving around the Doctor.
Similar glimpses of past Doctors were included in The Brain of Morbius, and again in The Timeless Children, revealing even more intriguing and mysterious incarnations.
Grant first appeared as an incarnation of the Doctor in Steven Moffat’s 1999 comedy sketch The Curse of Fatal Death for Comic Relief.
Grant voiced an alternate animated version of the Ninth Doctor in the 2003 webcast animation Scream of the Shalka.
To complicate things further, he also later appeared as Doctor Walter Simeon and the Great Intelligence, in the 2012 Christmas special, The Snowmen, The Bells of Saint John and The Name of the Doctor.
Who decided to include Grant’s Doctor? Was it writers Kate Herron and Briony Redman or showrunner Russell T Davies? Perhaps the upcoming official podcast or an interview with the writers and showrunner in Doctor Who: Unleashed will provide some answers.
