Here’s our September 2023 Podcast Roundup – our favourites from the worlds of CultBox.
In no particular order, the picks this month are…
I’ll Explain Later: a Doctor Who podcast

No Such Thing As A Fish: No Such Thing As A Peanut Hall of Fame
Neil Gaiman joins the QI Elves to discuss facts about bagels, bees, Douglas Adams and more.
Full Disclosure: Mark Gatiss
Broadcaster James O’Brien talks to Mark Gatiss about his multi-faceted career as a screenwriter, actor and director. The conversation covers his obsessions with horror, Doctor Who and Sherlock Holmes, as well as directing The Unfriend and starring in The Motive and the Cue.
Doctor Who Redacted: Season 2
Juno Dawson’s Doctor Who: Redacted podcast drama returns – the new six-part run has all dropped on BBC Sounds, but we’re listening to it weekly.
Series 2 picks up on Clio Proctor and The Blue Box Files team one year on from her encounter with the Doctor. There’s giant rats, Torchwood and a guest appearance from Anjli Mohindra as Rani Chandler too.
Loose Ends – Jenny Colgan
Writer Jenny Colgan appeared on the 16th September edition, alongside Val McDermid, for a lovely spot of Doctor Who chat.
Real Dictators: Adolf Hitler
Paul McGann’s history podcast returns to complete the story of Adolf Hitler. As the WWII rages, McGann tells of Stalingrad, Operation Valkyrie and the horrors of the final solution.
That Gaby Roslin Podcast: Lenny Rush
BAFTA award winner and upcoming Doctor Who star Lenny Rush (and his Mum Lisa) joined Gaby Roslin for a life affirming chat about his burgeoning career. The conversation takes in Am I Being Unreasonable? as well as working with Christopher Eccleston on Dodger.
This month, we also recommend Gaby’s chats with Philomena Cunk and Motherland star Diane Morgan, and Alistair Petrie (Rogue One, The Following Events Are Based On A Pack Of Lies) too.
Who Corner to Corner: Chris Chibnail
An extensive two-part chat with the former Doctor Who showrunner. The chat uncovers of behind the scenes gems, as well as Broadchurch chat, his showrunner’s training course and more. The second part delves into Flux and the fast creation of ‘Eve of the Daleks‘ when it looked like there wasn’t the budget for a festive special.
The Who C2C guys also dropped a great interview with special effects wizard Mike Tucker this month. The conversation takes in working on Doctor Who old and news, as well as Red Dwarf, his books and Big Finish audio work, and more.
The Radio Times Podcast: Dan Schreiber
Podcaster and QI Elf Dan Schreiber talks to Kelly-Anne Taylor about how he broke into the television industry, moving to London from Australia at the age of 19. The engaging chat covers Richard Curtis and encouraging your inner weirdo.
Film Stories with Simon Brew
This month, Simon Brew dug into the remarkable stories behind The Great Escape, Rocky III, Jack Reacher, Once, Logan and Evil Dead Rise.
So, happy listening… and do let us know if you have any recommendations too.
