Exclusive: Colin Baker reveals which modern ‘Doctor Who’ story he wishes he’d been in

Doctor Who star Colin Baker has revealed which Doctor Who story from the modern era he most wishes his Doctor could have appeared in.

Chatting exclusively to CultBox to promote the DVD release of coming-of-age movie A Dozen Summers, Baker told Jeff Moody: “I’ve only seen the first two episodes of Peter Capaldi. I’ve got the rest recorded, but what I saw, I liked a lot.

“I’ve seen a bit of David Tennant – but I did watch a lot of Christopher Eccleston.

“If I could pick one story and make it a Colin Baker story, I’d say ‘The Empty Child’ and ‘The Doctor Dances’. I was school governor at the time and the next day, I was going into the school and all the kids were saying ‘Are you my mummy?’ And at that moment, I knew that Doctor Who was back.”

He added: “Doctor Who is at its best when it’s like Roald Dahl and if the parents aren’t worried it’s not frightening enough. Doctor Who needs to get them back behind the sofa where they belong.  And anyway, ‘The Doctor Dances’ has the best line in it, ever. When Eccleston says ‘everybody lives’ – well, for the first time ever, I got a shiver down my spine.”

Marking the 30th anniversary of ‘The Trial of a Time Lord’, Baker also chatted to us about his time in Doctor Who – and “that awful outfit.”
