Picard season 2 – New Star Trek trailer drops showing Guinan reunion

Whoopi Goldberg reprises her fan-favourite role as Picard’s time sensitive ally.

With the countdown on to Picard season 2, the show has treated us to another trailer. This time, it highlights the return of Whoopi Goldberg’s Guinan.

While it was reported at the time that Goldberg lobbied producers for a role in Star Trek: The Next Generation back in the late 80s, it was Patrick Stewart who invited her to join Picardon live television!

Introduced in ST:TNG second season, Guinan was the Enterprise-D’s bartender and an old friend of the Captain. She popped up throughout the show’s subsequent six seasons, and even the big screen outing Generations, with enigmatic advice. As an incredibly long-lived El-Aurian, her ‘abilities’ allow her to perceive alterations to time and reailty. This notably came to the fore in the traumatic Yesterday’s Enterprise, where she was able to tell a troubled Tasha Yar’s something of her true fate.

The new trailer seems to imply that she will find herself in a similar role as Picard struggles to cope with whatever the impish Q has done Earth’s timeline. The impact of his meddling appears to involve the Borg Queen, a big reset of history, and Picard assembling the crew for a time trip.

Picard season 2: “Welcome to the road not taken.”

In addition to Stewart and Goldberg, the cast includes Alison Pill, Jeri Ryan, Michelle Hurd, Evan Evagora, Orla Brady, Isa Briones, Santiago Cabrera and Cristóbal Rios.

Brent Spiner also returns again in some form, with Annie Wersching playing the Borg Queen. Of course, John de Lancie also makes a comeback as Q.

The earlier trailer launched last September, during ‘Star Trek Day’…

Picard is one of a slew of shows on the Paramount+ Star Trek state, with a number of renewals just announced. We know there’s a Picard season 3 in production too, it’s being made back-to-back with Season 2.

Star Trek: Picard Season 2 arrives via Prime Video on March the 3th (or on Paramount+ in the US).
