The Fourteenth Doctor, Donna, Rose, the Meep, Kate Stewart and more as Doctor Who teases its trio of anniversary specials.
We’re now just under two months out from Doctor Who‘s 60th Anniversary and the BBC, as teased, landed an official trailer on Saturday evening. Running to 2 minutes, 30 seconds, it comes off the back of a delightful trickle of information that has appeared in the preceding months.
With helicopters and explosions, the trailer contains some new scenes as well as plenty that we’ve seen before. It also sets the Doctor and Donna’s friendship in context, flashing back to the Doctor’s life-saving but traumatic wipe of her memory in 2008’s ‘Journey’s End’.
With scenes from all three specials, ‘The Star Beast’, ‘Wild Blue Yonder’ and ‘The Giggle’, there’s lots to process. Plus, another thrilling tease of Ncuti Gatwa’s Fifteenth Doctor, who’ll enjoy his first full adventure over the festive period. We plan to bring you a scene breakdown soon.
Showrunner Russell T. Davies said:
“This is just the start, as the fever starts to burn. We’re heading for a November full of Doctor Who surprises, for fans and new viewers alike. Stay alert!”
The Toymaker
The BBC have also announced the (wildly unexpected) news that Neil Patrick Harris is playing the enigmatic villain The Toymaker. The powerful entity toyed with William Hartnell’s First Doctor back in 1966, where the character was played by Michael Gough. He’s also appeared twice on audio for Big Finish, where the character was brought to life by david bailie.

Kate Stewart
The trailer also confirms the presence of presence of UNIT’s Kate Stewart. First introduced in 2012’s ‘The Power of Three’, she last appeared on the show in last year’s BBC Centenary Special ‘The Power of the Doctor’.
We don’t yet have air dates confirmed for the Doctor Who 60th Anniversary Specials. They will premiere on BBC One in the UK and Ireland, and on Disney+ in the rest of the world.
We’ll keep you posted.
