The Inbetweeners and Friday Night Dinner star is returning to Channel 4.
Updated 19/12/22: Channel 4 provide a first-look at Simon Bird’s new comedy clan – The Lewis Family.
Ahead of its impending January launch, here’s our first official look at Simon Bird in Everyone Else Burns…. and his remarkable comedy bowl cut!
In the show, he’s graduating from his usual role to play a father, the patriarch of the idiosyncratic Lewis family. David, like his family, is devoted to preparing for Armageddon and avoiding eternal damnation, although worldly temptations sometimes get in the way.
The synopsis for the show describes it as “… a subversive, authentic and bitingly funny exploration into what it feels like to balance faith, family and identity in a world that could end tomorrow (but probably won’t).”
Bird stars alongside Kate O’Flynn as his wife Fiona, with Amy James-Kelly and Harry Connor playing daughter Rachel and son Aaron. With a six-part first series, the show comes from writers Oliver Taylor and Dillon Mapletoft.
Airing on Channel 4 and All 4, Everyone Else Burns launches in January 2023.
Expect a trailer soon – We’ll keep you posted!

Everyone Else Burns – Simon Bird to lead a new “apocalyptic comedy”
The Inbetweeners and Friday Night Dinner star is returning to Channel 4.
To a generation he might be Will, ‘bobble’ or p**sface, but Simon Bird is going up a generation; in his next Channel 4 show, Everyone Else Burns, he plays a father. It’s fair enough, despite being eternally young in those cult comedies, the actor turns 38 this year.
From pictures leaked from filming, which aren’t official (but are online), Bird sports a look unlike any of his most famous roles; sans glasses, he’s sporting a severe-looking bowl cut!
The new show explores life in a hyper-religious community. With the idiosyncratic Lewis family navigating modern day life, they’re also trying to protect themselves from eternal hell fire.
Here’s the premise for Everyone Else Burns:
Everyone Else Burns is a coming-of-age comedy about a Mancunian family and the puritanical Christian sect they are devoted to. Will patriarchal David Lewis ever ascend the church ranks and become an Elder? Will dutiful wife Fiona deviate from her own dogmatic moral compass?
Will their naïve 17-year-old daughter Rachel be allowed to go to university, and will 12-year-old son Aaron ever fend off his secular bullies? All could lead to damnation.
Everyone Else Burns is a subversive, authentic and bitingly funny exploration into what it feels like to balance faith, family and identity in a world that could end tomorrow (but probably won’t).
Simon Bird is joined in the show by Kate O’Flynn (Landscapers) as Fiona. The wider cast includes Amy James-Kelly, Lolly Adefope (Ghosts), Al Roberts (Starstruck), Soph Galustian, Harry Connor, Ali Khan, Lloyd Griffith, Kadiff Kirwan, Morgana Robinson, Arsher Ali (Avenue 5), Liam Williams, Kath Hughes (After Life) and Seb Cardinal (The Witchfinder).
Everyone Else Burns comes from writers Dillon Mapletoft and Oliver Taylor. The show’s director is Nick Collett (Ghosts). JAX Media (Russian Doll) and Universal International Studios are co-producing. The executive producers include Jax Media’s Tony Hernandez and Brooke Posch. JAX Media’s Molly Seymour produces.
We’ll endeavour to keep you posted as the show develops.
In the meantime, all of The Inbetweeners and Friday Night Dinner are available in the UK from All4.
